Tips and Strategies to Overcome Anxiety and Fear of Speaking Virtually

Hello, everyone! I want to ask how I can overcome my anxiety and fear of speaking virtually or just be confident in virtual speaking situations. I know we have been in this setting for like 3 years now, but I still struggle with feeling comfortable and projecting the same level of confidence in virtual communication as I do in face-to-face interactions. I find it hard to be energetic and engaged when speaking online, and it’s causing me a lot of anxiety. I try to be prepared and organized, but I still feel overwhelmed and nervous. That’s why I want to know if you have any suggestions or tips, as some of you here are like pros at virtual speaking. Thank you and have a great day ahead!

I totally get how virtual speaking can be tricky, especially since it feels different from face-to-face interaction. It’s like there’s this weird disconnect, right? Even after all this time working online, it’s still easy to feel off when you’re staring at a screen instead of real people.

Here’s something that’s helped me: before jumping into a virtual call, I take a minute to just breathe deeply. Like, literally focus on my breathing—inhale slowly, exhale slowly. It helps calm the nerves a bit. Have you ever tried that?

Also, I found that practicing with smaller, low-pressure calls helped me feel more at ease. Instead of diving into big meetings, I’d start with casual video chats with friends. It’s kind of like easing into the water instead of diving in all at once. Do you think that could work for you?

And I totally relate to feeling less energetic in virtual meetings. Something as simple as standing up or moving around before the call can help raise your energy. It might sound silly, but a quick stretch or even a little walk before the meeting can really wake you up.
