When I notice that there is tension or a change in the atmosphere, I take a mental note and ensure that I am calm and thinking critically to deescalate the situation. I seek to understand where the other person is coming from and then respond accordingly. The goal is to be aligned and be guided by the shared values or operating principles of the organization. Being on the same page can also mean agreeing to disagree and committing to keep things moving.
