I’ve been quietly learning and building my skills through the Virapp programs, and I’m really grateful for that space. I try to figure things out as best I can, using free resources and staying curious, even when things get tough.
Work has been challenging lately. I’ve been in two workplaces that weren’t very stable, but I kept honing my skills despite the environment. Leadership wasn’t always supportive, and it was sometimes hard to grow or even feel welcome. Of course, there are people who feel like fairies at work, often from other departments, who help you just out of kindness. It doesn’t happen often, but when it does, it sticks with you. Still, I’ve felt deeply undersupported at times.
Right now, I’m in between jobs and trying to make the most of my time by joining volunteer programs and learning on my own. It’s humbling and motivating, but I also worry about ending up in another role that drains me mentally.
I know I’m capable enough. I just don’t know what’s stopping me.
Some of the questions I keep asking myself are:
Am I really meant for a traditional 9–5? I like the stability, but I’m not sure if it’s the right fit.
Is human resources really for me? I enjoy people operations, and I’ve had a manager tell me I’m capable of doing it, but I’m still figuring it out.
How can I nurture my creativity without burning out? I worked as a digital marketing apprentice for Auro Chocolate and did content creation for Fundlife. Both were meaningful first experiences here that got my creative side moving, and I want to find that momentum again.
How can I build discipline and motivation when I don’t have anyone around me taking the same path?
I know things get easier with time, but right now I’m just trying to get back on my feet with more direction, clarity, and a bit more confidence. Any advice or perspective would mean a lot. Maraming salamat!
Cheers to your first post here! Thank you for the courage it took to share what you’re going through.
I think you already have clarity on your questions. Now, it’s about exploring them. Life will give you the lessons and data points you need as you go. Let me share one starting point for each of your questions:
Am I really meant for a traditional 9–5? I like the stability, but I’m not sure if it’s the right fit.
Treat this as an investigation. Try different work setups—remote work, freelance projects, even volunteering in areas that spark your curiosity. Chase your interests responsibly so you discover what truly fits. I’ve heard from HR experts that exploring early in your career builds the focus and resilience you’ll need later when creating lasting impact.
Is human resources really for me? I enjoy people operations, and I’ve had a manager tell me I’m capable of doing it, but I’m still figuring it out.
Give it time with intention. Set a reasonable timeline, fully engage with the work, then reflect. You’ll know more after living the experience.

Expand what “creativity” means to you. It can show up in ideation, resourcefulness, improving processes, even how you communicate with stakeholders. To avoid burnout: honor your pace, listen to your body, and take breaks!
How can I build discipline and motivation when I don’t have anyone around me taking the same path?
Be your own inspiration. Trust that the version of you today is who you once hoped to become. Practically: build habits that support your goals, and take action regar. Also, you’re not alone. Conversations like this one connect you to others (like me!) who feel the same way.
Rooting for you! Look at you pausing to sharpen your discernment. I believe you’ll know what to do. Kaya yan!
