How can our students/members best utilize KadaKareer's Career Explorer?

Hi Kada Community!

Greetings from Davao City! I’m a representative from the Developer Student Community (DSC) at the University of Southeastern Philippines - Obrero Campus , and we’re new to the platform. We’re excited to introduce this to our members.

We see great potential in the Career Explorer feature for our students, but we’d love some guidance. Our main question is: how can we make it possible for our community to get the most out of it?

We have an exciting idea to create a dedicated group for our students, something like a “USeP KadaKareer Scholars” or “Members” program, to formally guide them in their career development journey.

What are the practical steps, tips, or strategies you’d recommend for a student-led organization like ours? We’re looking for any advice that can help our members, especially those in tech, who are just beginning their career exploration journey.

Any insights on making this a successful initiative for the DSC USeP community would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Hi Kent! :blue_heart:
Welcome to the KadaKareer Kommunity, and thank you for introducing your amazing team from DSC USeP – Obrero Campus! :glowing_star: We’re thrilled to have passionate student leaders like you on the platform, and your initiative to create a dedicated “USeP KadaKareer Scholars” group already shows incredible foresight and leadership! :raising_hands:

As part of the Engagement Team here at KadaKareer, I’d love to help you make the most out of the Career Explorer feature and design a sustainable and impactful student-led career development journey. To better support you, I’d love to learn more about a few things first:

:eyes: A few quick questions to guide us:

  1. What kind of activities or support do your members usually engage in? (e.g., workshops, career talks, portfolio reviews, mentoring, etc.)
  2. What’s your main goal for the “USeP KadaKareer Scholars” group? (Is it motivation, peer learning, job prep, project building, etc.?)
  3. Do you have any ongoing or upcoming events where you’d like to integrate Career Explorer?
  4. Are you working with faculty or student affairs for this initiative, or is it fully student-led?

Once we have a clearer picture, we can co-create a plan together! But to start, here are some starter tips and practical suggestions:

:white_check_mark: Starter Tips to Maximize Career Explorer

  1. Pick Your Platform & Prep Your Materials :toolbox:
Decide how you want to host your community interactions and share learning materials. A few options:
  • :white_check_mark: Use KadaKareer’s Chat Feature – It’s already built-in, and your members can easily talk, ask questions, and track their progress.
  • or :video_game: Set up a Discord Server – Great for a fun and casual vibe. You can use channels like:
    • #career-explorer-check-in
    • #koach-tips
    • #tech-opportunity-share
  • :package: Prepare simple onboarding materials like:
    • How to use Career Explorer
    • Weekly or monthly goal tracker
    • Icebreaker prompts and discussion starters
  1. Launch with a Kickoff Call :compass:
  • Host a “Career Discovery Night” where everyone logs into Career Explorer and shares their first impressions live.
  • Use fun prompts like: “What career path surprised you?” or “What were your top 3 career matches?”*
  1. Create a Learning Cohort Model :busts_in_silhouette:
  • Organize students into small groups based on their career results (e.g., Data, UI/UX, Web Dev, Marketing).
  • Let them go through the career guides, answer reflection prompts, or work on micro projects together.
  1. Invite a Koach (or 2!) :man_technologist:
  • Once your group is more familiar with their paths, invite a Koach who works in those fields. We can help connect you with them based on demand (ex. “Intro to Frontend Dev” or “Day in the Life of a Product Designer”).
  1. Keep It Light but Consistent :hot_beverage:
  • Host weekly check-ins, even if they’re short. A “Career Catch-Up Friday” thread where students post wins, questions, or reflections can keep momentum going.
  1. Document the Journey :ledger:
  • Use a shared Google Drive/Notion or Discord channel to store:
    • Career insights
    • Project outputs
    • Resume drafts
    • Koach takeaways
→ This becomes your org’s career growth archive for future members too!
  1. Make It Yours :light_bulb:and Gamify it :video_game:
  • Customize it with your branding or org vibes — even simple things like “Scholar of the Week” or meme challenges help with engagement.

:memo: Tips & Notes to Keep in Mind:

  • Know your audience well - When you understand your members’ motivations, goals, and blockers, it’s easier to meet them where they are.
  • Start with a small, committed core group before opening it to everyone. This keeps the energy high and lets you iterate.
  • Not everyone will be active all the time – and that’s okay. Focus on quality engagement rather than quantity. Even 10 engaged members can have a ripple effect.
  • Celebrate small wins like completing one career guide, updating a LinkedIn profile, or attending a Koach session are all worth recognizing.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask for support! Whether it’s event templates, engagement ideas, or Koach invites, the KadaKareer team is here to help.
  • Use community power. Ask your members to share job/internship leads or opportunities they find online – this creates a culture of support.
  • Stay aligned with your org’s mission. Make sure this complements your tech advocacy and builds value for your members.

We’re super excited to see how this initiative grows at USeP and would be happy to co-create parts of it with you (content, speakers, mini-events, etc.). Let us know what you need, and we’ll support you every step of the way! :rocket::sparkles:

Hello Vosh and the KadaKareer Team!

Thanks so much for the welcome and all the nice suggestions!

To answer your questions, DSC mostly do workshops and career talks . For the “USeP KadaKareer Scholars” group, our main goal is to help with motivation, learning from each other, and making tech events.

We really want to maximize KadaKareer for our org. We’re planning to have our members use the Career Explorer a lot, and maybe even open it up to the whole USeP community later on. It seems like the perfect way for students to build their skills and figure out what they want to do. We’re a student-led group, but we do have a professor who helps us out as an adviser.

We’re super excited that you offered to help us make a plan! That’s exactly the kind of support we need to make this work. Our team will look over all your tips this week. Getting your help with stuff like content or speakers would be a total game-changer. We’re really looking forward to working with you on this!

Thanks again for all the help!
