We recently just had our debate today. Beforehand I did some research about our topics. I was nervous and hesitant at first, but as I familiarized and practiced the way I speak, I realized that the day of the debate, I was able to say a lot of things. Although it was still flawed and needed a lot of improvements, I was satisfied and proud of myself to overcome my nervousness even when my voice shakes.
Alam mo, relate na relate ako diyan! I also participated in a debate competition before, and grabe, I was so nervous that I completely messed up the first part of my speech. As in, parang blanko talaga yung utak ko for a moment. But then I took a minute—literally a minute—to just breathe and refocus.
After that, I stopped overthinking and just spoke from the heart. I shared the points I wanted to deliver, even if they weren’t perfectly structured. Nervousness talaga can mess you up, but I learned na the best way to get past it is to calm myself and trust that I’ve got this. Minsan, you just have to let yourself be yourself, and that’s more than enough!
Kaya saludo ako sa’yo for pushing through—you’ve got what it takes, and you’re already on your way to becoming an even more confident speaker!
