5 AI-Ready Skills I Wish I Learned Back in College

Nakakatakot pala ang AI.

Back in college, ginagamit ko lang si ChatGPT kapag nagre-“research” ng mga assignments na mahirap hanapin sa Google (or kapag mas mabilis lang talaga mag-type ng prompt kesa mag-search, lol).

But a few years later, now that I’m working, I’ve realized something scary:
AI might actually replace everything I know and can do.

It all started when I watched this cute but informative video from Kurzgesagt – In a Nutshell.

At first I was like, “Ah, ang galing! Mangyayari na pala ‘yon!” :exploding_head:
Then a few weeks later: “Sht. Mangyayari na pala ‘yon…” :upside_down_face:

What I’m referring to is the fact that many of the skills we value today (yes, even the ones we studied hard for) might become obsolete because of AI’s rapid progress.

At doon ako nag-panic. :shaking_face::shaking_face::shaking_face:

So I did some research.

I found out that there are specific skills na hinahanap ng employers—especially in the next 5 years.
:smiling_face_with_tear:

Here are the top 5 skills that, according to World Economic Forum, will be essential in the next 5 years:

1. Analytical Thinking :brain:

AI is great at organizing and summarizing data. But making decisions based on that data still needs human judgment.

2. Resilience, Flexibility & Agility :flexed_biceps:

Tech is evolving fast, so are industries. The ability to keep up, adapt, and bounce back from setbacks is a superpower now.

3. Leadership & Social Influence :handshake:

AI can do logic, and it definitely is better at it. But leadership, social connection, and emotional intelligence? Those are dependent on YOU.

Tandaan mo: AI is just a tool. At the end of the day, tao pa rin ang mga ka-trabaho mo.

4. Creative Thinking :artist_palette:

AI can code, analyze, and generate patterns—but it still struggles with true creativity, especially when it involves intuition, emotion, and personal experience.

5. Motivation & Self-Awareness :magnifying_glass_tilted_left:

Even the most powerful AI still needs a human operator—you. And that means you’ll need patience, drive, and the willingness to keep learning.

I know these aren’t magical solutions to AI-proofing your career.

I know all of this can be overwhelming for you, so I made a cheatsheet to help you apply these lessons better!
It includes small steps and daily habits that helped me build these 5 skills daily.

AI Ready

I had the same sentiments as you, Sean. I was also excited when AI first came around, then as time went on, I got to reflect, maraming what ifs, doubts, and curiosity. Especially nung pandemic, when the last 3 years of my university days were spent at home, in front of my deskstop, gmeet/zoom, and doing my work online.

But yeah, kailangan din tayo gumalaw, 'wag maging kampante, at tamad. AI cannot take over everything, especially human emotions; it might be able to analyze it, but it cannot feel it. We have to move and learn.

Daghan salamat, Sean!
